Filming blog

Over our Thanksgiving break not only did we eat turkey, but we also filmed our music video. From Tuesday after school November 26th to Friday morning November 29th we all had family in town. Due to this we were unable to film any of these days. Michael took charge and texted in the group chat that we needed to get it done. Saturday November 30th was a no go for Edgardo and I  because we had basketball. On Sunday December 1st Fulvio went to the Dolphins game so we could not film that day either. Luckily all of our families left earlier on friday so we were able to film later in the day. We all agreed on a time and met at the Galleria mall. Fulvio ran a little late so we didn't film at the exact time we wanted. Our communication was much better which led to us actually filming.

The actual filming process was pretty smooth. We took multiple shots for each scene to insure we had good footage. The scene that we had the most trouble with was the scooter scene it took us a while to find a scooter. Once we finally found some it took us a while to use them because we had to download the app for it which took long. Once we finally had them moving we took a lot of shots of us riding because it was blurry at some points. We also struggled finding homeless people willing to be in our video. Its not as easy as it sounded but we did find one. Overall it was a success we got our footage and we think our video will turn out really good.

Tomorrow in class we will begin editing. We have some experience from our music video so it should be pretty smooth. Although the computers are pretty slow if we start early we can hopefully finish all of it and be done. Throughout the course of planning and filming we learned a valuable lesson which was communication is key. Due to our great communication over break we were able to film and knock it out. I'm very excited to see how this video turns out. The hard part is done (filming) it's now just editing. Although we came across a couple problems while filming we found our way around them and were able to get our footage. Overall we had a very successful filming process.

Planning Music Video

1. For our location we will be filming at the Galleria Mall and the beach. We chose to film here because it is a nice area and everyone is able to meet up at this location. In case this doesnt work we are going to meet up at Hagen park on Wilton drive because it is also very close and easy to get to.

2. For our Health and Saftey we will make sure to buckle up when driving, be aware of surroundings, and make good decisions. We will also make sure no one has food allergies to insure saftey. By doing this we will be safe and have no problems during the filming process.

3. The props we will be using in this video is a car in which we will dance in front of  and lean on. We will also carry money and show it off as a prop. The final prop is food, in the music video Drake is seen giving homeless people food. We are using the car and money to show that we are on the up rise and doing good.

4. The costumes that we will wear when we are filming is a gold chain and hats. We are dressing this way because in the Gods plan music video they dress like that.

5.  The schedule that we will be following is next class 11/20 we will story board for the video. On 11/24 we will film our music video at the given location. On 11/26 we will dump our footage on to the computer and begin the editing process. It is then Thanksgiving break we get back on 12/2 and the next class period is 12/3 we will then finish editing and be done that day. The due date is 12/9 so we will have two class periods to fix anything we did not like and will perfect it and turn it in.

Music Video Research

Today we were introduced to our Music Video project. We have to decide as a group on what song and how we want to do our video. For example , if we want to lip sing it or etc. I’m really big on music so I’m really excited about doing an actual music video. Music has had a big influence on my life and the way I see it. I feel as if this will be the most fun thing I’ll do in high school.

When choosing the song it was a difficult choice. Two of our teammates were not here and were not answering the phone. I preferred songs from the rap genre and Michael preferred songs from the pop genre. Michael and I looked through lists of the top songs and had different opinions. We finally found a song we both enjoyed we agreed on "Gods plan" by Drake. We both like Drake and Gods plan is a mixture of pop and rap. It falls under the genre of pop-rap which was perfect. It has a very catchy beat and the lyrics are well written. Michael texted the other group members and they finally answered and agreed with our choice. Gods Plan is the perfect song for our group.

We started doing more research on the genre and learned a lot. The costumes that are usually seen in the pop-rap genre are comfortable stylish outfits with jewelry. The lighting usually seen in this genre is bright and uplifting. The acting in this genre is cool, not too much like pop but not too much like rap in the middle. The makeup in the genre is nothing insane, it looks natural. The props in this genre varies on what song but cars are usually used as a prop. The setting that is commonly used by the pop-rap genre is usually around a city area or in a house in a neighborhood not like the suburbs or an abandoned place. The genre has a similar sound it's a good beat with not too much rap but not too much pop. The editing in these videos aren’t t too complex and are pretty basic.

Final Blog for Commercial

The last two class periods we've been working on editing our commercial. I felt like this was the most fun thing to do during the process of making the commercial. In a previous class our teacher taught us how to use Pinnacle Studios. We could not edit our commercial when we wanted to so we had to get our raw footage clip to Michael's google drive. Our group was excited to start start editing for the first time. We had to pull out our notes so we could remember exactly everything we needed to do for the commercial. First we imported our commercial folder which was filled with the raw footage. That process took a while so we brainstormed what general idea we had for our commercial. Our commercial was pretty simple so brainstorming was not a big issue.

On the first day we got a lot done. Once the footage imported we got working on the commercial immediately. We went through are raw footages and decided which ones we wanted to use. We recorded each clip at least twice just incase something would've been wrong. After figuring the 5 clips we wanted to use it was time to put it together. Fulvio dragged the clips together. When we edited something it would take a couple seconds to render which was annoying in my opinion. By the time class ended we had our clips in the right order we just needed to add finishing touches.

On the last day Michael got our computer. We didn't waste no time so we could get this commercial done. Michael opened Pinnacle Studios and our stuff was still there. So today we added the sounds and transitions. I did not know it was so much transitions we could use. Edguardo put the transitions and I gave him the advice. After adding all of that in it was time to export. The export took about 5 minutes maximum. We had to put it as a MPEG also. We found it after about 2 minutes , then we were done. At last we submitted it to our teacher.

Editing

Today during class we completed filming for our commercial. First Fulvio gathered all the materials we needed to film. This included the tripod, camera, and SD card. Then we went to the gym to get a Gatorade bottle and basketball that we needed as part of our film. Fulvio was the person who filmed most of the shots. The first scene Fulvio filmed today was a two-shot of Edguardo and I dribbling a basketball. Fulvio set up the tripod and camera so that we could begin filming. Then Fulvio started and stopped the camera while the two of us dribbled. We did about three takes of this scene.

Fulvio then filmed the scene of us drinking Gatorade. Fulvio filmed us doing this scene multiple times in case we couldn’t hear Edguardo and I saying their lines. Then Fulvio re filmed the final scene that he took last class of the close up of a Gatorade bottle. Then we went back to class so we could dump our footage. Fulvio then returned all of the materials we used to film. Fulvio then got the SD card reader so we could dump the footage from our SD card onto the computer. We moved all our footage into the same folder as our footage from last class.

Then I had to move our footage into either a flash drive or our google drive. Since nobody in our group had a flash drive Fulvio used his google drive. He then moved all our footage from our two days of filming into google drive. Then he shared it with the rest of the group in case he was not here on a day that we need to access the footage. Unfortunately we could not complete any editing today. This was due to the fact that the computer took a long time to upload the footage from our SD card. Now that all of the filming is completed we just have to complete the editing process next class.

Filming The Commercial

Today,  we filmed most of our Gatorade commercial. I began by gathering all the materials our group needed to film the commercial. This included the camera, SD card, and tripod. We then went to the track to film the first part of the commercial. Fulvio set up the tripod and put the camera on it. Then he recorded Michael running on the track. We filmed this part of the commercial a few times all of which Fulvio filmed.

Then Fulvio moved the tripod to the other part of the track to film the next part of the commercial. Michael said his lines while we filmed. We had multiple takes of this part of the commercial. I recommended that we face the opposite way so we could get better lighting on Michael while he talks. Finally we filmed the last part of our commercial. Fulvio took a close up shot of the Gatorade bottle. Once we filmed what we could for the day we had to go back to class to dump our footage. Fulvio closed up the tripod and put it away in its bag. Then I removed the SD card from the camera and put it in its bag.

When we got back to class I returned all of the materials we had used to film except for the SD card. This was so that we could still use it to dump or footage. I got the SD card reader and put it in the computer with the SD card. Then I looked back in my notes to find out which folder our footage would be in on the SD card. Then my group and I looked over our footage to see how it came out. Once we finished watching the footage Fulvio created a folder and Michael dumped the footage into it.

Editing Lesson Blog

Hello, today in class we learned about how to edit and the process of editing our commercial. When we open the desktop there would be a app called Pinnacle studio 17,18, or 19. This is the app where we would import our videos, edit them, and export them. First, we have to open a folder on the desktop and name it something we'll remember. That is where the videos and the final product will be placed at the end. After that we put the SD card into the SD card reader and then insert it into the computer. The computer that our group use one day is the one we are going to have to use everyday. We must have the same person log into the computer everyday. Even when the are not here we will have to use their login information.

Once the SD and the SD card reader is in the computer a pop up will come up with everything that is on the camera. Click on the DCIM file and our footage should be there based on the date filmed. We have to make sure that the date and time on the camera is accurate so we would not have to guess where our video is. If we can not find the video we have to press the private file, and then press AVCHD, then press stream. Once you find the videos, you highlight all of them then put into the folder that we first when we opened the computer. Then you are going to dump your videos which means to get footage from the camera to the computer. Then press the import button which is on the top of the screen and this is will import your videos to Pinnacle Studios. Then it is time to edit your raw footage. Raw footage is a video that is not touched.

We have to leave track 1 open for titles. Track 2 is the main track that we'll be using because it is for the videos. Track 3 is for the sound or music you want to use. The tracks are pretty much like layers which makes it so much easier to edit. To split the footage you would have to press the razor blade icon. To get rid of the audio of a certain part of the movie you have to select the raw footage and right click. When you are done with your commercial project you have to look for the word export which is next to the import word. Then you have to make it a mpeg.4 and put it on full size, best quality. The camera that we are given is pretty small and handheld. It is great for recording and taking pictures. We're also given a tripod that could be extended 3 levels. We can't move the tripod when its extended because we might trip and fall with it and the camera and that's going to be a lot of money to pay if those things break. This is what we learned this class period.

Research Conventions & Codes

Today, our group decided on the product Gatorade for our commercial. Michael, Fulvio, Jontae, and I all play a sport and consume Gatorade to refuel. Many famous athletes consume Gatorade in order to restore the electrolytes that have been lost. Athletes all around the world drinks Gatorade. Electrolytes are a substance that produces an electrically conducting solution when dissolved in a polar solvent, such as water. When the human body is low on electrolytes some affects can be, irregular heartbeat, weakness, bone disorders, twitching, change in blood pressure, confusion, seizures, and numbness. It is very important to insure you have a good amount of electrolytes in your body so you don't feel the affects shown above. That's why a drink like Gatorade is very important and should be advertised as much as it is.

In Gatorade commercials with Michael Jordan the brand claimed that people should “Be Like Mike Drink Gatorade.” In addition to Jordan athletes like JJ Watt And Serena Williams can be seen in different Gatorade commercials. The common theme in all these commercials is that these athletes are telling viewers they can be like them by drinking Gatorade. This makes the viewers like us want to purchase the drink and hope to be successful like these big name athletes.
These commercials often take place in a gym, outside, somewhere the athlete does his sport best. Common music in these commercials are intense, workout music to get you hype. These commercials include athletes from high school all the way to the pros.
